about
“New York Doesn’t Remind Me” is about falling in and out of love and how lovers past so often haunt us and the places we experience with them. The places I describe in the song are all actual spots where my own love affair blossomed and declined in New York City, making this song deeply personal to me. Writing it was sort of like drawing a memory map and an exercise in letting myself feel and letting go.
lyrics
New York Doesn’t Remind Me Of You
Unless I been drinkin alone
Or if I’m with some other gal
On the subway ride home
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
I never think of that
Polk-a dot dress
At the corner of Bowery and 3rd
I don’t remember those photo booth pictures
We threw in the river
When they wouldn’t burn
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Unless I been drinkin alone
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Or all of the ways that we tried
Unless I get caught in the rain
On the lower east side
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
I don’t remember that letter
You slipped in my pocket
At St. Dymphna’s Bar
I never think of how tunnels and bridges
Could make someone
So goddamn close feel so far
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Or all of the ways that we tried
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Or how you said love doesn’t last
Unless I’m in Chinatown
Chasing the ghost of your laugh
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
I never think about pocket watch promises
Down at the 66th pier
I don’t remember that cobblestone waltz
This is nobody’s fault
God I wish you were here
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Or how you said love doesn’t last
I don’t remember
the way the way that you looked at me
Brooklyn is blurry and Grammercy’s gone
The smell of the books at The Strand
And that night on Randall’s Island
Oh baby where’d we go wrong
New York Doesn’t Remind me of you
Unless I been
Unless I been
Drinkin Alone

this album is HAUNTED and started playing randomly after I paused it and closed out of the band camp app frightening me as I was starting to fall asleep.
